“Runaway Ramp”

A somewhat clunky narrative, one must admit. It tries to hide the fact, that most of those images are visual porn and made for exactly that purpose. However, on a less critical note, there is a genuine theme underneath. In a more symbolical way, if one will.

At that time I was introduced to animal posessivness. In other words, strong desire. Which leads, when expressed, almost always to some sort of an accident. An accident bursts idealism, it shows one has almost no control over ones actions. Desire then, can lead astray. It might spring from wishful thinking about a happy marriage, or a deep need to give up ones personality and merge with the other. But more often than not, desire leads to loss of illusions one was initally seduced by. In a good way, it helps to pinpoint naivety. The danger, however, lies in giving up discernment completly. If not careful, desire can lead to self-destruction. Why? Because, there is no end to it. One can never satisfy desires completly. It’s the nature of desire.

The irony of the bear costume is one of those elements where David Stragmeister and myself gave a hint of not taking ourselves seriously. On a more technical note, we experimented with tough set-conditions on this project. One of our choosen restrictions was to shoot only within the morning and evening blue hours. We were living in the middle of the desert in tents, shooting on 35mm and using the most precious prime lenses we could get.

An unforgettable expirience.
